AI, Innovation, and Vermont Small Business
Last night at Black Flannel, I joined a room full of entrepreneurs, technology professionals, and local business owners talking about something that is rapidly changing the way we work: artificial intelligence.
It was fascinating to hear Rocket describe how technology is helping Farmhouse Chocolates solve business problems and become stronger.”
Technology at Work for Small Business
I was equally impressed listening to Black Flannel founder Chris Kesler explain how he uses open-source software to bring data together and turn it into useful marketing information.
What struck me most was the opportunity AI presents for Vermont’s small businesses.

What AI Could Mean for Vermont Businesses
Used thoughtfully, these tools can help businesses become more productive, reduce repetitive work, make better use of their data, and compete in an increasingly challenging marketplace. Greater productivity can also give businesses more capacity to invest in their employees and strengthen the local economy.
AI isn’t just a technology story. It’s becoming a small-business story, an employment story, and an economic-development story.

I enjoyed the conversation and especially appreciated the chance to talk with Chris about what these changes could mean for businesses here in Vermont.
